Balls

Tennis ball found floating down the river. Usual suspects:  dog owner playing with their canine?
Issue: made with rubber covered in a synthetic fabric. Will break down, but not biodegrade.

Tennis Ball

Maybe giants reside along the river. Here is their ping pong ball.

Plant Life

These grow prolifically along the river's edge.  Water Hyacinth.  Native to Brazil, the species was introduced in the 1800's and has spread and naturalized extensively. Pretty as it is, it is also invasive; reproduces rapidly; and can squeeze out native plant species.  Left unchecked, it can literally 'choke a river, pond or stream.' They sure are pretty though.
WATER HYACINTH
This is such an appropriate leaf shape. Love is all along the river.
I HEART THE RIVER
Would like to find out what the name of this shrub is. It grows prolifically along the river edge and smells wonderful.
SPRAY OF WHITE
Even trees that are no longer alive add an element of beauty to the waterscape.

Mother Nature's Fireworks

Happy Independence Day All. Can't get on the river tonight. Clouds, rain, lightening and thunder rolled in this late afternoon, preventing kayaking and city sponsored fireworks.

Better look up at the sky and watch Mother Natures version. It's a spectacular show.

Wind is assaulting the trees. Clouds are literally black, white and gray. The lightening is impressive. The streets, deserted.

Timeless Summers

All is right with the world when boys continue to spend summer afternoons jumping in rivers. After I paddled past these four, I turned around to watch the setting sun.  I heard them call "hey kayak lady." I raised my hand and waved.  They waved back.

4 Boys Jumping In The River On A Summer Day. All is right with the world

Later I went for a walk. Two young boys approached.
"Excuse me. Do you got a dollar?"  one asks.
"For what?"
"ahhh....." he shrugs.  "We wanna buy candy."
"Do you get an allowance?"
The other boy, who didn't seem amenable to asking in the first place, gets antsy.
"C'mon. Let's go."
They pass, and I walk on.

/Full Moon Reflected On River

Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.

Storm Before The Calm

July 2 had been a hot, sunny one. Then, as often happens in summer in Maine, clouds rolled in.  Didn't think too much of it. Clouds are a staple along seacoasts. Then...
Enroute to the river and suddenly the dark clouds could hold back no more, releasing a torrent of rain.
At the river the dark clouds rolled away, revealing blue skies.

A few hours later ~ MoonRise

Turned the headlights on during the drive to the river, due to the rain. Forgot to shut them off. Battery dead. Just renewed AAA. It really IS worth it.

Stopped at grocery store on the way home. A gal in front of me was buying two half gallons of Smirnoff Vodka. The clerk had stepped away and was just returning when I got to the register. She told the girl, "The manager saw you standing out front with a crowd of people. We'd need to see all their ID's before selling you the alcohol."
"Okay, no problem," said the gal, who was wearing a yellow sundress and had a string of stars tattoo'd on her neck. I had seen the group of young people outside the entrance when I'd come in.  While scanning my groceries the clerk shook her head in disgust, "It's so ridiculous," she said.
"Was she buying for the others?"
She nods. "Looks like it."
When I went outside, the star-tattoo'd gal was still there, this time only one guy was left with her. I overheard a snippet of their conversation.
"Fuck it, we'll just go to Shaw's for it," I heard her tell him.

I guess Hannaford's can spot 'em.

Somewhere Under The Rainbow...

This is what kept me off the river the first day of July. Not the rainbow, but the storm that preceded it. This was the view from my deck.
